Me and You, Just Us Two

When I caught up with Hana before her big day she told me she had always dreamed of wearing a red wedding gown. Her mum had worn a red dress on her wedding day too.

Since that early conversation I suspected Hana and Samual's wedding would be unique – and boy was it one to remember!

The pair travelled over to the West Country from central London in August to elope on a North Devon clifftop. I asked 'Why Devon?' early on, and the simple answer was that they both just wanted to get hitched somewhere beautiful by the sea, hopefully with a sunset to boot.

I've shot many elopement sessions before but this was my first time being the couple's witness. The ceremony was really was something special. Hana and Samual had written their own vows for their late afternoon ceremony, which was a beautiful mix of white flowers, pillar candles and a gentle sea breeze. Even as a few raindrops started to fall in the Summer air they both looked completely enamoured by their surroundings and each other.

After the ceremony Hana mentioned she is an A&E nurse working in the City and turns out she has been on the front line throughout the pandemic. Over chilled afternoon shots as the tide rolled out and boats meandered by I heard more stories from them both, and the more I heard the more the day seemed so beautifully stripped back and oh so very personal to them.

I gave the newlyweds some quiet time to soak it all in over a champagne picnic. Into the evening the moody sky cleared to a golden sunset over the English Channel, just as they had hoped.

Micro-weddings and elopements have been on the rise throughout the pandemic due to the restrictions but I really hope increased elopements are here to stay. So often I hear couples commenting they toyed with the idea and after witnessing Hana and Samual's day I would say, if it feels right, 100% do it!
